Mondelez International has removed over 6.4 million plastic windows from its chocolate eggs this Easter, taking 5.4 tonnes of plastic out of the environment and making them easier to recycle.
The plastic removal will be highlighted on-pack with a ‘Be a good egg’ label, which also informs shoppers how to dispose of the packaging correctly, and will span across the supplier’s full range, including Cadbury, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Cadbury Bournville, Fry’s, Green & Black’s, Maynard’s Bassets and Oreo.

Similarly, the manufacturer reviewed its cardboard cartons for its shell range, removing a further 108 tonnes by using 100% sustainably sourced cardboard.
The move is part of Mondelez’s ‘Pack light and pack right’ strategy to remove, reduce, replace, and recycle packaging across its range, and follows a 15% reduction in the plastic used in its Cadbury large share bags and Cadbury Dairy Milk 360g sharing tablet.

Louise Stignant, UK manager director at Mondelez International, said: “Increasing the recyclability of our products and reducing the amount of packaging we use overall are important steps to contributing to the creation of a circular economy.
“In the past six months, we have removed 192 tonnes of packaging in the UK and Ireland and removing the plastic windows from all our Easter eggs further supports our existing position as one of the most efficient users of plastic packaging in the consumer goods space.”
