Menzies Distribution has waived a £4,000 deposit it attempted to impose on a retailer, thanks to help from the NFRN.
Christopher Buitenhuis, owner of Hardham Road Post Office & News in Chichester, West Sussex, transitioned from a WHSmith Local back to an unaffiliated shop, and was told he was required to pay £4,000 to the news wholesaler to make the change. His move followed WHSmith Local announcing in May that it would not be renewing contracts with its retail customers.
He told Better Retailing: “I have worked with Menzies for 17 years, and couldn’t understand why it would ask for that much money. I reached out to the NFRN through the helpline, and they got in touch with Menzies to explain that my credit check was clear.”
As a result, Menzies removed the request for a deposit. “The NFRN was a help and support system,” he said.
