Major pasty recall hits these Nisa own brand and Wall’s products

Nisa is one of several retail groups recalling own-label pastry lines after its supplier warned that small pieces of metal wire may be an accidental ingredient.

Aldi and Tesco’s own label were also affected, as are any store selling certain Millers or Wall's branded fresh pastry products, all are manufactured by Addo Food Group.

The Wall's recall is likely to affect thousands of independent shops, as according to Adelie Foods marketing director John Want it is: “The number-one savoury pastry brand in the channel.”

A statement from the Food Standards Agency read: “Addo Food Group is recalling batches of chilled pastry products, including sausage rolls, pasties, pastry pies and slices because of potential contamination with small pieces of metal wire.”

According to Kim Burgess, head of markets at Addo Food Group, the chilled savoury pastry market for snacking and sharing is worth at least £65m to UK retailers.

The affected Nisa lines and use by dates are Heritage Beef Pasty (8 June), Heritage Chicken & Mushroom Pie (11 June), Heritage 2pk Cheese & Onion Rolls (7 & 10 June), Heritage Jumbo Sausage Rolls (7, 9 & 11 June), Heritage Minced Beef & Onion Pie (10 June), Heritage 2pk Sausage Rolls; (10 June), and Heritage Steak Pie (10 June).

The affected Millers lines and use by dates are Mince Beef & Onion slice (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 June) and Chicken Tikka Slice (6, 7, 8, 9 ,10 ,11 & 12 June.)
