A new parcel collection company is targeting independent retailers for the expansion of its locker network across the UK.
Lockars has set a goal of rolling out 25,000 self-service lockers throughout the UK, starting with 1,000 sites in London.

Like services provided by Amazon, the network will enable customers to pick up or return parcels from designated Lockars sites based at participating convenience stores.
However, Lockars sites differ from Amazon Lockers as they are solar powered and do not require mains electricity.
The company’s chief executive, Juan Sotolongo, claimed this will enable the Lockars network to reach areas that have traditionally been unable to support outdoor collection points.
Amazon lockers drive footfall for retailers
He told Better Retailing: “We’re also looking to work with any retailers who have been unable to partner with Amazon in the past or have been restricted by the existing network.
“Due to the wide range of online businesses we’re open to working with, convenience stores who work with us could get more footfall as well as commission. We’re targeting sites in or near city centres, but we’ll work with the right retailer regardless of size.”
The lockers will require a six-digit PIN provided to the customer to unlock when they pick up or return parcels. Sotolongo said a space one metre in width and three metres in length can fit up to 60 Lockars.
