Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust offers university bursaries to children of store owners

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust is to offer undergraduate bursary schemes to children of those working in the convenience sector

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust, which provides financial aid for families of those working in convenience, grocery and pharmacy industry, has announced its application dates for undergraduate bursary schemes for 2024/2025 year.

The bursaries will be offered to university students whose parent or carer is employed in the three industries. The applications are due to open on 1 August and run until 15 October. Those interested can apply to receive up to £3,000, and the bursary can be put towards tuition fees and other expenses, such as course materials.

The busary is designed to help families supporting their children through higher education through the cost of living crisis.

In 2024, the total number of bursaries awarded since the scheme launched is expected to exceed 5,000, totalling £28m-worth of financial aid.

Professor Anna Vignoles CBE FBA, director at The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust, said: “At LTCT we’re gearing up for one of the busiest and most rewarding periods in the calendar. Our undergraduate bursaries see a high volume of applications year on year and with every approval we delight in knowing we’ve helped a student get a little closer to their academic goals.

“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to continue their educational journey, and we hope our bursaries can help lighten the financial burden. We therefore encourage anyone in the grocery or pharmacy trade who may be eligible to apply – it could well lead to someone in your family taking the next step in their education. Make sure 1 August is in the diary.”

Alongside the undergraduate bursary, a postgraduate scheme is currently open for those keen to return to university, closing on the 1 September 2024.
