Lack of DHL contact riles retailer

A retailer has expressed his frustration with the lack of contact from DHL during its takeover of Pass My Parcel.

A retailer has expressed his frustration with the lack of contact from DHL during its takeover of Pass My Parcel.

Graeme Pentland, owner of Ashburton Village Store in Gosforth, said he received a letter from Smiths News last week updating him on the latest term agreements.

It read: “An agreement has been reached on a transition plan which will see Deutsche Post DHL take over the operation of its parcel shop network, through subsidiary UK Mail.”

Pentland said: “I’ve had to ring other retailers to find out the process of checking the parcels.”

The letter confirmed Smiths News and DHL will work together until the transition is completed in June 2019.

“Usually we are given an A4 sign to go outside the shop and a helpline number. None of this has happened under DHL,” he said.

In response, a spokesperson for DHL Parcel UK said: “We will be working to actively increase volume to shops during peak periods and encouraging new customers to use the network.

“We also plan to expand services such as returns in order to open up even more benefits
to consumers.”
