Convenience stores are changing staffing models in response to the UK-wide labour shortage.
Vince Malone, of Premier Tenby Stores in Pembrokeshire, said: “There just isn’t the pool of people around here. They’ve quite rightly made a choice of balancing their work and home life more due to the pandemic.”

Explaining changes made in response to the lack of candidates for senior roles, another store owner told Better Retailing: “I’m trialling something similar to what the convenience franchises do by splitting managerial responsibilities between two of my most senior and trusted employees.”
