Just Ask: Free support in the magazine category to boost your sales and increase customer loyalty

Just Ask is a free toolkit backed by publishers allowing you to sell thousands of magazines that aren’t even on your shelves with little extra effort, by letting customers know you can order in any magazine for them.

The campaign is proven to give you long term loyal repeat customers through Shop Saves, as well as helping you engage customers with the magazine category with free Point of Sale that you can use both in-store and across your social media platforms.

How do I get started?

We can send you a free PoS pack which includes an in-store poster, shelf strips, and shelf barkers, which can be displayed around your magazine fixture to let customers know you can order them any magazine they want. Make sure you explain all of this to staff, who can explain everything to any interested customers. Please email marketing@newtrade.co.uk, or complete the form below to get your free PoS kit.

You can download additional posters and in-store order cards, using the buttons below.

Digital assets are available on the Just Ask Facebook page here. These can be shared across your own social media accounts, helping you to promote your magazine category to your wider customer base. We will be creating new assets regularly, allowing you to capitalise on seasonal and other opportunities, so keep an eye on the page!

In addition, publishers will be backing Just Ask with adverts across many bestselling titles and digital assets on social media.

How do I take requests?

Your point-of-sale pack includes postcards for taking magazine orders.  When a customer requests a title, fill in the postcard and use it later to place an order. You can use the free website NationalTitleFile.co.uk to find out when the next edition lands so they know when to pick it up. You can even collect the customer’s number to give them a little reminder when it arrives.

Make sure to ask the customer if they want you to hold back a copy just for them each time a new edition arrives, known as a Shop Save. These attract repeat high-value custom to your store.

How do I set up shop saves?

You can set up shop saves for most magazines easily by contacting  your magazine wholesaler using their apps or over the phone.  Just make sure you let staff know to keep the copy behind the till when it arrives.

Smiths News recommend using the HND management option on its SNapp app to make sure you always get the Shop Save copies you need, which will allow you to track and manage the quantity of magazines you receive for delivery.

Menzies advise contacting their Customer Service Centre or using i-Menzies to inform them that you have new shop save order requests, these will then be added to your supply levels – you can amend these going forward, as appropriate.

You can also set up shop saves for magazines not available through Smiths News or Menzies by emailing the distributor directly and give them the details of your store and the magazine you want a shop save for.
