James Convenience Retail unveils store rebrand

The refresh began at the firm's Derby store in October last year

Multi-site retailer James Convenience Retail (JCR) has completed a rebranding of its Stockport Bus Station store, with a major focus on impulse and price-marked products (PMP). The refresh was completed at the end of April, following a similar refit at the firm’s Derby store in October 2023. The main change is a larger focus on PMPs to cater towards price-conscious customers during the cost-of-living crisis.

Commenting on the refresh, JCR director Jonathan James said the firm would potentially roll out the new branding to its other transient sites, following analysis of how the Stockport site performs.

James told Better Retailing: “Stockport is a brand spanking new store, so we thought we’d trial the refresh here. I’m absolutely delighted. The feedback on the lighting, shelving and layout have been really positive. It’s very simplistic, but very striking. It’s still early days, but the store has been very busy. We’ve made it all about the product. It’s a very impulse-led site, focusing on products such as sandwiches, snacks, food to go and coffee.

“Customers expect to pay more in transient stores, but we’re mindful of the cost-of-living crisis. Our customers are facing difficulties with finances on a day-to-day basis, and we have a lot of PMPs in the store. Customers have said they thought it would be more expensive than this.”
