Empowering Women in Convenience – inaugural event 2022

Our Women in Convenience initiative is designed to recognise, support and empower the fantastic women working in independent convenience stores across the UK and Ireland

Empowering Women in Convenience

Launched last year, Women in Convenience gives women working in the sector a platform to share their successes, a support network to discuss the issues unique to them, and access to the tools and knowledge to improve.

Having taken place on 8 November in Fazeley Studios, Birmingham , the inaugural Women in Convenience event was an opportunity to:

  • Gain inspiration and learn from successful female guest speakers and panellists
  • Meet like-minded retailers and share experiences
  • Discover practical solutions to everyday issues experienced in and outside the store
  • Build a network of long-term contacts from within the convenience sector

The event was, of course, open to male retailers – providing an opportunity to understand how to become a better ally to their female colleagues.

Event highlights include:

  • Women in Convenience survey results
  • Insights on diversity from The Global Institute of Women’s Leadership
  • Imperial Tobacco on gender dynamics
  • Five female retailers sharing their experiences

Be part of a platform that will enable women working in the independent convenience sector to be heard and get the opportunity to connect with other female retailers and build your network.

The story behind the Women in Convenience initiative

Our Women in Convenience initiative is designed to recognise, support and empower the fantastic women working in independent convenience stores across the UK and Ireland. It strives to provide greater visibility and recognition for their contribution to the success of independent stores across the country.

Women play a central role in many independent convenience businesses, however their contribution is often overlooked – with our research showing they are under-represented on retailer panels, in editorial content, at industry events and in awards programmes.

Through Women in Convenience, we are looking to address this balance – giving women working in convenience a voice, a platform to share their successes and a support network to discuss the issues that are unique to women working in the sector.

Join us and be part of a platform that will enable women working in the independent convenience sector to be heard and get the opportunity to connect with other female retailers and build your network.

Have your say

To help us shape our programme, we are looking to gain some insights from female retailers, to help us ensure we are focused on the right areas and that we can provide insight and advice where it’s needed most.
