Retailers have criticised Booker’s decision to replace Londis, Budgens and Premier-branded bags with alternatives from Jack’s.
Several of the symbol group’s retailers reported that symbol-branded bags had been delisted last month. A bag for life and paper option are available as replacements.
Retailers can also still order plain bags from the wholesaler. Although the Jack’s own label brand is exclusive to Booker symbol and One Stop stores, the branding is accompanied with the Tesco logo.
Store owners criticised the move and considered it as advertising for a rival. “I won’t use it,” said one retailer. “We’re not advertising Tesco, we’re independent stores.”
However, another retailer downplayed the criticism. They added that Tesco had been visible for months on the packaging of the Jack’s own label, which they said was one of their most popular products.
