Roughly one third of Payzone’s retailers will be able to earn commission through HubBox click & collect parcel services by this time next year.
Speaking to Retail Express, HubBox CEO Sam Jarvis said: “We’ve already identified the initial 2,500 which began rolling out last week at a rate of about 60 a day.”
Predicting the impact on retailers, he added: “We’re growing quickly with 100 new clients in the past four and a half months. We think, over time, we can generate more footfall and more well-deserved love for local shops.”
HubBox specialises in providing online retailers with a way of getting their products into their customer’s hands outside of home deliveries. The company claims the deal with Payzone makes it the largest click & collect network in the UK, with 90% of the population living within a mile of a collection point.
Jarvis said HubBox chose Payzone due to the strength of its retail network and its recent in-store technology investment which he described as “very, very smart.”
Payzone’s head of product & convenience Damian Scholes added: “We’re thrilled to be forming a partnership to offer our customers a convenient parcel service.”
Courier companies dominate the UK online retail delivery market, with only 20% of the top 500 online retailers using third party collection points such as convenience stores. Jarvis said this is likely to change. “If you talk to people in Sweden or Norway they would laugh at you if you told them you get parcels delivered to your house, because people are never there and you’ll just end up going somewhere to pick it up anyway,” he said. “We think click & collect will grow to 25% of the UK market. There’s huge growth opportunities.”
HubBox is also available to non-Payzone retailers directly and requires no terminal or long-term contracts. The company’s boss said it can take under an hour to start earning commission as a collection point with nothing more than an app download and a phone call. It is also still available to retailers that use rival services such as CollectPlus and MyHermes.
