Spar is challenging Amazon Fresh to become the first independent retailer in the Netherlands to launch a same-day delivery service.
Shoppers are able to order groceries online and have them delivered to their home after 4pm, with the new service available for free on orders of more than €50.
“The online retailing concept was developed to enable independent retailers to tailor the offer to match their available products,” said Penny van der Kaars, communications manager for Spar International.
Spar Netherlands is planning to roll its online ordering system out on a nationwide scale in the near future.
There are currently no plans for Spar UK to roll out a similar scheme.
