Hellmann’s moves squeezy bottles range to recycled plastic

The supplier has moved over 40% of the range already, with plans for 100% by the end of 2022

Unilever UK and Ireland has begun moving its full ‘squeezy’ range of Hellmann’s bottles to a new packaging made of 100% post-consumer recycled PET plastic.

The new packaging comes with a ‘New 100% Recycled Bottle’ logo on the front of the pack. Currently, 40% of the range has moved to the recycled plastic material already.

Unilever plans to have switched the full Hellmann’s range to the new packaging by the end of 2022.

The move is part of the supplier’s wider commitment to halving its use of virgin plastic, and ensure all its packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.

Andre Burger, vice president of food and refreshment for Unilever UK and Ireland, said: “With our new 100% recycled plastic bottles, which are also fully recyclable, we’re providing shoppers with an accessible and simple way to help make their households and mealtimes more sustainable – while continuing to enjoy the products they love.

“Our Hellmann’s bottles are our first food brand in the UK to use 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, and while making the switch has not been without its challenges, these learnings will enable us to accelerate the move of other Unilever food brands to using more recycled plastic too.
