The UK government launched a consultation on restricting promotions on food and drink that are high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS) last weekend.
It asks participants to give their views on limiting volume-based promotions of HFSS food and drink that encourages people to buy more than they need, and restricting placement of HFSS food and drink at main selling locations in stores, aisle ends and store entrances.
ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “Restrictions on where products can be located in store would be particularly difficult to implement for small shops with limited space. The government must ensure that small shops are exempt from these restrictions.”
The consultation closes on 6 April 2019.
