OPINION: GB Gold Rush inspires everybody to do more

Wow!  What a fantastic weekend for Team GB.

The gold medals came in thick and fast as athletes from all different disciplines stepped up to deliver their best results.  After watching Jessica Ennis and Mo Farrah’s spectacular victories (not to mention Andy Murray’s long awaited and thoroughly deserved win over Rodger Federer!) it is hard not to be inspired.

Sport is a brilliant example of what you can achieve through hard work and perseverance.  After watching the successes and near misses from top athletes over the past week we have to ask ourselves, are we the best we can be at what we do?  If not, why not?  What can we do to raise our game?

The best independent retailers never rest on their laurels.  They are always looking for inspiration to make them even better.  Our advice is to find out what things the best retailers are doing well and to see how you can bring in something similar to your store.  Are there things that the multiples do really well that you can adapt and improve on with your USP of being a dedicated, local, retailer?

For example, we recommend stocking up on extra copies of sporting magazines such as Runners World; with more new gym memberships than on the first of January, now is a great time to gain custom from all the people who’ve been inspired by the games to do more.
