Food and dairy wholesaler Freshways has blamed Brexit for a price rise to products announced earlier this month.
In a letter seen by Better Retailing, Freshways stated “continued uncertainty surrounding Brexit has led to staffing issues and hence salary increases”, as well as increases in rent and employer pension contributions were behind the decision that came into effect on 15 September.
Gaurave Sood, owner of Neelam Post Office and Convenience Store in Uxbridge, London, said: “Freshways should be ashamed of themselves, using an excuse like Brexit for increasing their milk and bread prices, as it’s not happened yet. It’s another increase that we have to swallow.”
