The store has undergone a major 10-week refit

A Nisa store in south London has undergone a major refit, allowing it to go “toe to toe with the multiples.”

Torridon Road Convenience Store in Hither Green underwent a 10-week refurbishment, adding digital shelf edge labels, an American soft drinks range, alongside hotdog, popcorn, coffee and milkshake machines by its entrance.

The 2,950sq ft store also stocks a range of premium whiskies, with one Japanese bottle costing £999. A beer cave is also decorated as a vault to create theatre. The chilled room has a range of craft beers, wines, non-alcoholic beers and products from local brewers.

Meanwhile, electronic shelf edge labels installed by EPoS firm ITS enables to store to update pricing in an instant. The tobacco gantry is also connected to the store’s EPoS, automatically dispensing cigarettes when the transaction is put through.

Store owner Kaual Patel told Better Retailing: “We’ve created something different and we can go toe to toe with the supermarkets. The majority of the store’s new fixtures is custom because I wanted it to have its own personality.”

Patel is the second generation to run the shop, following on from his father who opened the store in 1984.
