Gareth Lewis, loss prevention officer at Southern Co-op, said: “We’ve been running facial recognition in 20 stores for around 18 months, and within that time frame, we’ve diverted more than 3,000 incidents of theft. Our stock loss has come down to a point where we had a return on investment in eight months.”
