A northern retailer has encouraged the use of social media to help business owners become aware of shoplifters in their area.
Graeme Pentland, owner of Ashburton Village Store in Newcastle upon Tyne, was the victim of attempted shoplifting last week, but recognised the offender and prevented the theft. “We know the person in question is notorious for shoplifting in our area. She wears a hoodie and a face covering,” he said. “Someone alerted me via Facebook she was in the area, so I knew to keep my eyes peeled.”
When asked what value social media has in communicating with other local businesses, Pentland said: “I recommend other retailers get in touch with businesses in their area because it can be useful for reasons like this.”
