Bestway is to close its Coventry depot due to “extremely challenging and volatile” trading conditions.
The wholesaler’s managing director Dawood Pervez confirmed the closure to RN and said a consultation process is underway. Although no date has been given for the closure, delivered customers affected by the change will be served by Bestway’s Oldbury depot. Bestway’s ‘Collect’ customers will be transitioned to the wholesaler’s Nuneaton site.
Commenting on the changes, Pervez said: “Like all wholesale businesses, trading conditions have been extremely challenging and volatile over the past few months, and it’s a hard fact that we have to look ahead to the changing environment we are now operating within in order to ensure to ensure long-term sustainability of the business. There have been tough choices to make but it is vital that we maintain our service levels, protect as many jobs as possible, and create greater efficiency within the business as a whole. Our thoughts are very much with our colleagues who will be affected by this decision.
“When our consultation process is finalised, we will be contacting all our customers currently serviced from Coventry, in order to activate a transition plan to ensure we continue to service them to the high standards they deserve and expect from us.
“It is our intention that our Retail customers will be serviced by our depot in Oldbury (subject to normal delivery terms and conditions), our ‘Collect’ customers will be invited to transition to Bestway, Nuneaton, and our Bestpets customers will also be invited to transition to Bestway, Nuneaton, where we will be pleased to offer them a more extensive range and bigger offering of products.”
