Exclusive: Snappy Shopper reveals new loyalty scheme

Snappy Shopper has revealed plans to launch a new loyalty rewards scheme in an exclusive interview

Grocery delivery partner Snappy Shopper is to launch a new loyalty rewards scheme designed to help local shops maximise the value of every home delivery customer. A trial of the rewards scheme is already underway and the tool is to be made available to all Snappy Shopper-partnered stores soon, according to chief executive Mike Callachan. In an exclusive interview, available in the 16 February edition of RN magazine, the Snappy Shopper founder revealed major “breakthroughs”, including the loyalty rewards scheme and a new partnership with Co-op.

The firm’s first deal with a national chain is now live, with two Co-op stores in Belfast and Gilnahirk in Northern Ireland taking orders on Snappy Shopper.

Callachan explained: “We’ve just launched with them and it’s really exciting for us. What we’re starting to do is bring some of those company-owned Co-op stores into Snappy Shopper and we’re seeing great results because they’ve got great stores, fantastic coverage and are leading in the UK in terms of quick commerce.”

While Co-op also works with other delivery providers, Callachan said Co-op’s decision was in part driven by Snappy features that reduce cost and complexity in fulfilling orders, such as its picking app, automatic price and stock level updates and not needing to scan orders at a till. “One of the big attractions for them is that we can solve a lot of problems for in-store colleagues,” he stated.

Loyalty rewards scheme

Callachan said supermarkets have been “doubling down” on loyalty schemes, and Snappy’s new rewards system will allow local shops to do the same for home-delivery customers.

He revealed: “What we’ve done is built a reward scheme that is based upon the amount of orders a customer is placing in a calendar month. There are milestones, so if you spend £10, £25 or £50 in the month, you get specific rewards. The retailer sets where those markers are and what the rewards are – it could be a product, a voucher, free delivery or any number of things defined by the retailer.

“We believe it will reward those loyal shoppers and also be an incentive for the customer who has placed their fourth order to place their fifth.”

Snappy Shopper added that the rewards will be “specific to each store on the platform”, encouraging shoppers to be loyal to their chosen store, rather than just to Snappy Shopper. KeyStore More Prestwick in South Ayrshire is one of the first to offer the scheme, offering £3 off for spending £75, £6 off for spending £150 or £10 off for spending £200 throughout February. Coupon codes are automatically generated and given to the customer once the thresholds are met.
