EXCLUSIVE: Morrisons boosts delivery investment to address franchise supply issues

Franchisees had reported ongoing issues in recent months

Morrisons Daily

Morrisons is addressing ongoing delivery issues for Daily franchisees, by investing in additional warehouse space, fresh supply and its lorry fleet.

Several of the supermarket’s franchise partners told RN they had experienced problems in recent months, with one store reportedly missing a third of their expected order. Others had resorted going to rivals such as Booker and Bestway to fill the gaps.

Asked what the firm was doing to address the issues, Morrisons acknowledged it was experiencing ongoing issues and was “working very hard to further improve the level of service to franchise partners.”

The improvements include a new ambient distribution centre for company-owned and franchise operated sites, with capacity being doubled. Fresh deliveries for its convenience sites will also be taken directly from suppliers by the end of September to ensure franchisees receive “fresh produce more consistently.”

Deliveries to larger franchise stores closer to supermarket size will also be serviced by supermarket depots, while Morrisons claimed it had seen “significant” improvement in managing issues with its fulfilment partner.

However, it added: “That said, we know we are still not where we need to be and so are working closely with them to ensure we are delivering the right service for our franchise partners.”

These improvements include the recruitment of new drivers and delivery fleet, “which are being fed into the business on a weekly basis”.
