EXCLUSIVE: Frozen ready meal supplier could bag c-stores £120 per week

The company produces frozen ready meals aimed at the health-conscious and gym-goers

Frozen ready meal supplier Gold Standard Nutrition (GSN) has targeted convenience stores as its main focus for growth next year, with some existing sites already generating £120 in additional weekly sales.

Twenty-one lines are available, including Tender Chicken Tikka Masala, Smoky Chicken & Chorizo Paella, chicken wraps, chicken bites and Slow Cooked Beef Ragu.

The average price is £3.99 per product with a 40% margin, with multibuy options also available.

Founder Craig Allen told Better Retailing the company has chosen the convenience sector for growth over the next year, due to increased demand among retailers and their customers for frozen products.

He said: “When you look at the product directories for some convenience chains, there’s not a single healthy frozen ready meal available.

“We’re stocked in nearly 500 sites around the UK, mostly in gyms. We are trying to open up the opportunity to go into convenience and make healthy eating as accessible, affordable and enjoyable as possible. Convenience is the biggest focus for 2025.

“Customers will pay £4 for our products, whereas a protein bar is nearly £3. We look more expensive when compared with a cheap alternative frozen meal or a Birdseye product, but you get a lot of extra value from our products.”

The company has a distribution partnership with chilled-and-frozen supplier Eden Farm Hulleys and is looking to establish relationships with other convenience wholesalers.

GSN products are also currently stocked in Spar, One Stop and some regional Co-op stores.

Allen added one of its convenience partners sells an average of 30 units a week, equivalent to additional weekly sales of approximately £120.

The company can also open direct accounts with stores, with a £250 minimum spend on orders.

Allen said: “One other good thing about GSN meals is the volume you can fit inside a freezer. You can put four of our pots into a pizza-size space.

“In terms of independent retailers as stockists, we want forward-thinking ones that can offer a range of healthy and convenient options.

“Some of our partners are doing well with GSN, and that’s the kind of case study we’re building to help us get into more listings with wholesalers.

“We want to identify more of these retailers to help build those case studies and take our distribution forward.”
