A pair of Costcutter retailers have formed a new venture to acquire and convert stores to the Morrisons Daily franchise.
Mike Nicholls and Nadeem Ashraf, who both operate Costcutter sites in York, have already acquired two existing Costcutter stores for conversion under the partnership, which trades as Skyline Properties & Development. The stores in Strensall and Easingwold are due to be converted by the end of April.
Nicholls told Better Retailing that he is due to convert his own store to the Daily franchise when his agreement with Costcutter expires next year. He added: “What we’ve seen so far from Morrisons has been very promising.
“We’ll look to expand more stores and keep going. We’re looking at sites all the time, but the main goal right now is to get the two shops up and running. Any future sites we acquire have to be right for the Morrisons Daily model. The shops in Strensall and Easingwold are perfect because of the high volume.”
Morrisons senior wholesale manager Nick Russell added: “The final preparations are underway to open two new Morrisons Daily fresh food convenience stores with Mike Nicholls and Nadeem Ashraf in North Yorkshire later this month.
“The bright, modern stores will offer customers a carefully tailored mix of Morrisons own brand products alongside branded favourites and we’re looking forward to customers seeing the great value on offer.”
