EXCLUSIVE: Booker hints at home delivery launch in trademark filings

The wholesaler filed trademarks for several home delivery services named 'Swoop,' 'Nippy,' 'Deliverease' and 'Scoot'

Booker is gearing up to launch a home delivery service, recent trademarks filed by the wholesaler have suggested.

In September, the firm submitted trademarks under the names of ‘Swoop,’ ‘Nippy,’ ‘Deliverease’ and ‘Scoot.’ Under their lists of goods and services, the trademarks had classes for online ordering and the delivery of goods from both convenience and foodservice outlets.

One source close to the firm said: “It’s been an open secret that Booker have been building their own since the beginning of this year. They’ve seen the success of Whoosh and they want their own platform so they can harness money from brands for adverts and deals on their own platform.”

In August this year, Booker signed a partnership with Snappy Shopper to “further enhance the delivery options available, helping to drive sales and cash profit.”

Some of the wholesaler’s symbol retailers have also found success with the launch of their own home delivery services. Premier retailer Justin Whittaker launched the Flash Delivery service last year, which has since expanded to take on additional retailers throughout the UK.

Nisa recently launched its own-branded home delivery service, leveraging the Co-op’s support and driver network.

Booker has been approached for comment by Better Retailing.
