Technology to improve the security of convenience stores was a major focus at the EuroShop conference 2020 in Germany.
The annual trade show took place in Dusseldorf last week.

Sid Sidhu, of St John’s Budgens in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, told Better Retailing: “There was a lot of technology, such as doors with cameras embedded into them.
“These were designed to recognise a customer and tailor radio advertising to them, but there were other uses such as recognising a thief and alerting the retailer.”
Simply Fresh creative director Davinder Jheeta added that EuroShop conference 2020 also had self-checkouts that scanned items by recognising the shape and weight on the conveyer belt.
