EU three say no to Ireland’s plain pack plans

Three EU member states – Portugal, Slovenia and Bulgaria – have responded to plain tobacco proposals in Northern Ireland.

The three have said that former health minister James Reilly’s proposals were incompatible with EU rules on the free movement of goods and services.

Although full details on the responses from the three countries are unknown, it shows there is strong feeling throughout the EU about the implementation of plain packaging laws.
