Digital alcohol age verification trial delayed

There have been delays at the Home Office in getting the trials started

A government trial of digital age verification for alcohol purchases in convenience stores has been delayed until later this month.

Independent retailers were among the businesses invited to the trial, which had been set to start in summer this year.

Applications open for digital ID check trials

Store owners were asked to propose methods of digital ID for alcohol purchases, which they would trial if chosen as a successful applicant.

However, a source close to the trial told Better Retailing: “There have been some delays at the Home Office in getting the trials started, so none are underway yet.”
