A defibrillator has been installed at Spar Mendip Avenue, as part of a Durham County Council initiative to improve access to lifesaving equipment in the local community.

The installation is one of five new defibrillators being placed in easily accessible locations across the area to enhance public safety.

Fiona Drummond, company stores director at James Hall & Co. Ltd, which owns Spar Mendip Avenue, described its installation as an important development for the community.

She said: “Whenever we are approached to support such initiatives, we are keen to be there for the communities that we serve, and it aligns to one of our key brand ambitions which is to nurture our neighbourhoods.”

Durham County Councillor Paul Sexton also welcomed the installation, saying: “It’s visible on the outer wall, it’s in an ideal location at the heart of the community, and everyone in this area knows where the Spar is located.”
