Could cork-stopped wine drive spend in your shop?

The Portuguese Cork Association analysed the top wine brands and found natural cork-finished wines retail £1.52 more per bottle than those with a screw cap.

If you’re looking to drive spend from your wine shoppers then stocking wine with a cork could be the answer.

Research commissioned by The Portuguese Cork Association analysed the top 1,500 wine brands in the UK and found natural cork-finished wines retail on average £1.52 more per bottle than those with a screw cap.

The difference is even bigger in red wine, with screwcaps selling for £5.26 on average compared to wine with a cork selling at £7.15.

João Rui Ferreira, Portuguese Cork Association chairman, said: “These results clearly demonstrate the value to retailers, who can trade customers up and benefit from higher profit margins.”
