Costcutter retailers have had their quarterly rebates withheld after failing to comply with stricter planogram standards.

The terms set by the symbol group last year require retailers to follow conditions displaying Costcutter promotions on aisle ends. However, some retailers reported the company had become stricter with the terms and withheld rebates from them.

One Costcutter retailer told Better Retailing: “I was told I failed. I agree with the premise of compliance, but it’s become a tick-box exercise.”

A Costcutter spokesperson said: “One of the changes to our scheme focused on standardising key deal-end execution. Now is the right time to reward key deal compliance.

“We will support retailers to help them qualify and if they do so in our next sixweek cycle, we will honour their rebate payments from this cycle also.”
