Coronavirus: NFRN launches Shop Local campaign

The campaign shines a light on the importance of independent convenience stores

Coronavirus: NFRN launches Shop Local campaign

The NFRN has launched a poster campaign to encourage the public to ‘shop local’ and buy little during the Coronavirus lockdown.

The posters, which can be downloaded from the NFRN website, remind shoppers to not forget that their local convenience store can provide the products they need while social distancing, and to make sure they buy responsible amounts of food and supplies.

The NFRN has sent two versions of the poster, which carries the message ‘Shop Local, Shop Little’, to all members, together with a covering letter from national president Stuart Reddish. Members will receive the posters from Monday and are encouraged to display them, particularly while shoppers are staying at home during the Coronavirus outbreak.

“In unprecedented challenging trading conditions, we want to remind shoppers to support their local shops,” Reddish said.

“Independent retailers play a critical role in their communities. We help raise much needed funds for local charities, we give young people their first jobs, we home deliver newspapers, magazines and much more, and we keep a watchful eye out for the elderly, disabled and more vulnerable people in society.

He added that there were already stories circulating about how NFRN members are going above and beyond to help their customers. “Independent retailers are working hard with their suppliers to supply their customers’ food and household needs during this difficult period,” he said.

“Many of our members also offer a delivery service and will be happy to deliver to the elderly and vulnerable and those who are self isolating. We really hope customers will see these posters and shop locally and little in their community shops.”
