Charity announces final call for university bursaries to children of store owners

The application deadline for the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust university bursary scheme is 15 October

Retailers are being called upon for a final chance to apply for an undergraduate bursary scheme for their children.

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT), which provides financial aid for families of those working in convenience, grocery and pharmacy industry, has set its deadline for applications for the bursary scheme as 15 October 2024. The bursaries, for the 2024/2025 year, will be offered to university students whose parent or carer is employed in the three industries.

Those interested can apply to receive up to £3,000, and the bursary can be put towards tuition fees and other expenses, such as course materials.

Professor Anna Vignoles, director at LTCT, said: “We believe everyone deserves the chance to pursue higher education, and our bursaries help ease the financial burden for families. We encourage all eligible students to apply before the 15 October deadline.”

In 2024, the total number of bursaries awarded since the scheme launched is expected to exceed 5,000, totalling £28m-worth of financial aid.
