Jai Singh, owner of MJ’s Go Local Extra in Sheffield, has urged retailers not to be afraid to challenge terms imposed on them by ATM operators without permission.
The comment comes after he received a letter from ATM operator Cardtronics revealing it would begin charging for transactions on previously free-to-use ATMs.
He told RN: “There was no mention of price. I contacted Cardtronics, which sent a rep to my store. He realised how much this would affect us, and we came to an agreement.”
Singh extended his contract by a year and now pays £150 a month, plus VAT, to offer a free service. “It increases our sales by £2,000 a week,” added Singh. “Retailers should call companies directly if they are unhappy.”
