Business minister warns of minimum wage ‘crackdown’

The newly appointed small business minister has warned that the Government will crack down on employers who fail to comply with minimum wage laws.

Minimum wage

A Renfrewshire retailer landed in hot water when the Government discovered he was not paying his staff the minimum wage.

Ronald McConnachie, who runs Bay Newsagents in Weymss Bay, was publicly shamed as the country’s sixth worst offender on a list of 198 companies failing to comply with the law. McConnachie was ordered to pay £12,527.97 to three staff members.

Small business minister Margot James said the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy would “continue to crack down on those who ignore the law”.
