Soft drinks manufacturer Britvic has backed a UK-wide deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers in the UK.
The supplier’s new group sustainability director, Trystan Farnworth, said at the launch of Britvic’s 2018 soft drinks review last week that the company is “fully supportive of a well-designed DRS scheme”.
However, he stressed the need for it to be designed to meet the needs of retailers and suppliers. “If we don’t get the details right as an industry, it will fall down,” he claimed.
Challenged by RN on how Britvic would help retailers with the scheme, Farnworth said that help should come from a central, manufacturer-led body, rather than individual suppliers.
