Bestway Wholesale is to complete a deal to purchase Blakemore Wholesale’s Cardiff and Walsall depots in the coming weeks.
A senior industry source confirmed the agreement to RN hours before Bestway made an official announcement on June 15. The deal will increase the number of warehouses operated by Bestway to 65 upon completion.
When asked about the deal, an employee at the Cardiff depot told RN: “All the managers are in a meeting and an announcement around the Blakemore Group will be shortly released.”
A retailer, who asked not to be named, had also confirmed to RN a deal between the two wholesalers had been signed.
Bestway Wholesale managing director Martin Race said: “We’re very excited to add these two well-located and sizeable depots into our estate, and to welcome the employees into the Bestway family as our new colleagues.
“The addition of the Cardiff and Walsall depots will only make us stronger, enhancing our presence in these two key areas, and expanding our footprint and coverage in the UK.”
Both depots will continue to be managed by Blakemore until the deal is completed. All 123 employees at both warehouses will be retained.
This news comes as Parfetts announced the purchase of Blakemore’s Middlesbrough depot just weeks after United Wholesale Grocers acquired the company’s Gateshead site. Blakemore Wholesale announced the sale of its 12 depots in April.
