‘It isn’t my shop, it’s the community’s shop’
Bart has been trading in his store for five years, here are three key things retailers can learn from him.
1. Enjoy the simple things.
By offering a range of artisan bread and independent dairy farmer’s produce, customers enjoy coming into Bart’s store because they’re excited about helping their local community.
2. Recognise your problem areas.
Bart admits he struggles to get middle class mums into his store, because of Ocado and online shopping. But he does offer a ‘click and collect’ service.
3. Spread the word.
“It’s simple, people die and people move,” says Bart. He’s distributed more than 7,000 leaflets and goes out every three weeks to encourage new residents into his store.
