Magazine Opportunity: TV Choice

Fiona Campbell, publisher & Gavin Hyde, Newstrade Marketing Manager, Total TV Guide & TV Choice

Having been picking up more and more sales as readers bleed away from more expensive titles, Total TV Guide recently jumped up a place in the charts of most-stocked magazines for independent convenience stores. If your store is one of the handful missing out, ahead of Christmas could be the perfect time to get it in stock

What makes TV listings such a successful category for independents?

FC: TV Listings are a destination purchase in the magazine category, readers buy very frequently and are typically brand loyal. We have seen a shift in recent years with the cost-of-living crisis; readers are looking for good value products that deliver on their expectations of quality, a broad coverage of channels and entertaining features.

Why is Total TV Guide in particular a must-stock title?

FC: Alongside TV Choice, the biggest RSV title on the UK magazine newsstand, Total TV Guide has consistently outperformed other titles in the TV sector over the last four years.

GH: Total TV Guide generated £1.2M RSV in the independent sector in 2023. Its success in the sector has been helped by a strategic and targeted approach to independent retailers, particularly post-Covid. We have been working hard to support the channel and making sure independents are given the right level of attention they deserve.

Why are customers switching to Total TV Guide?

FC: As the best value premium TV title, Total TV Guide has been increasingly popular with customers who want to know all about the TV, streaming and radio shows worth watching & listening to each week, but don’t want to pay a high price for it. With the quality & output of TV and streaming shows continuing to increase, the title is well placed to continue its success in years to come.

What does Total TV Guide have planned to pull in customers over Christmas?

GH: Total TV Guide’s Christmas double issue (on sale 10th Dec 2024) performs incredibly well in the independent channel, with new readers coming into the market for their festive TV fix. It’s a great time to get prepared for TV Listings in the run up to Christmas, with on sale schedules changing from the end of November, ensuring that titles are fully faced and at the front of fixture to maximise revenue at this key time of year.
