Comparing the prices of vegan and vegetarian products
Behind the numbers
Vegan and vegetarian products continue to grow in stature as more people look to reduce meat consumption. Veganuary provides the opportunity for a sales spike, so retailers need to make sure their pricing remains enticing.
As with last year, there’s scope to widen margins with Quorn Mince 300g: 64% of retailers are exceeding its most-common price of £2.85, with £4.85 the highest price – up from £4.05 this time last year. Conversely, just 23% are selling Quorn Crispy Nuggets for more than its most-common price of £2.99.
On the drinks side, the most-common price of drinks from brands including Alpro and Oatly has increased compared with last year, and only a small minority are charging above it across the former’s Oat and Soya varieties.
However, retailers are still driving profits on Oatly’s Barista Edition 1l: 51% are pricing above its most-common price of £2.09, with some charging as much as £2.99.
