Motivating your team is crucial to the success of your business. If your team members are engaged, encouraged and rewarded, they will be supportive of helping you reach your store’s objectives. Here are 10 top tips to motivate your team:

  1. Run team incentives throughout the year. Make sure everyone is rewarded with things like team socials.
  2. Run incentive competitions. Run a bingo competition on upselling certain lines or encourage them to push products at the till, and reward the highest achievers.
  3. Assign certain product sections or responsibilities to individuals with relevant performance bonuses attached.
  4. Encourage your team to contribute suggestions for improvements in the store.
  5. Highlight your team members on social media to your customers to introduce them and celebrate their successes.
  6. Be transparent with your team about business decisions or challenges wherever possible and relevant.
  7. Encourage customer feedback and share with your team the positive things said about them in front of their peers.
  8. Create a career progression plan with each team member so they have a clear vision of what they are looking to achieve and where their role is heading.
  9. Hold regular team meetings where you can discuss improvements for your business or suggested events and new processes. Make sure to give everyone a voice.
  10. Task more senior members with training new or junior members and reward them according to set Key Performance Indicators of their trainee.
