Comparing the prices of sugar confectionery
Behind the numbers
As with last year, sugar confectionery bags are competitively priced, with fewer than 50% of retailers exceeding the most-common price on all 12 of the lines examined this week. Where are the opportunities to increase profits?
The one standout is Maynards Bassetts Sherbet Lemons: 48% of retailers are charging above the most-common price of £1.69 set by 52%, with some going as high as £2.29. Elsewhere, 39% of retailers are exceeding Sour Patch Kids Watermelon’s most-common price of £1.49, with £3.49 the highest price. This £2 gap is the largest between a highest and most-common price this week.
Thirty-seven per cent are charging above Tango Bon Bons Blue Raspberry’s most-common price of £1, but the highest price is just 50p more. The highest overall price this week is for Cadbury Mini Snowballs at £4.99. However, just 16% of retailers are pricing higher than this line’s most-common price of £4.
