Comparing the prices of protein bars
Behind the numbers
This week’s data shows price flexibility on protein bars is dictated by brand. There is a stark difference in how willing retailers are to exceed the most-common price on Grenade bars compared to other brands.
All of the six Grenade products examined this week are charged above their most-common price of £2.99 by less than 10% of retailers. That most-common price is also comfortably the highest out of all lines examined, and is 50p higher than when we last looked at Grenade protein bars last year, showing that retailers are wary of going too far above RRP on popular, widely stocked brands.
The biggest opportunity of the week comes from Trek’s Salted Caramel Bar: 56% of retailers are charging above its most-common price of £1.09, with the highest price of £2.99 nearly 174% more. Half are charging as much as £2.49 for Snickers Protein, compared with the most-common price of £1.75 set by 49%.
