Comparing the prices of whisky
Behind the numbers
Whisky is a well-known winter warmer and seasonal gift, so it’s time for retailers to think about their pricing ahead of the festive season. Where are the opportunities among the lines examined this week?
Johnnie Walker Black Label 70cl is the big large-format opportunity: 49% of retailers are charging as much as £39.29 per bottle, £9.30 higher than the most-common price set by 48%. On the more value end of the pricing spectrum, 46% are selling Bell’s 1l for as much as £31.29, giving the 51% who haven’t exceeded the most-common price of £21.99 something to think about. Fifty-three per cent are also going above its 5cl bottle’s most-common price of £2.49, with £3.29 the highest recorded price.
Conversely, just 8% of retailers are charging more than the most-common price of £21.49 for a 70cl bottle of Jim Beam, and just 16% are exceeding the £27.49 that a majority are setting for a 70cl bottle of Jameson.
