• Petcare is a category with seemingly little opportunity for retailers to gain extra margin. Just one line has more than half of retailers charging above its most-common price.
• Weebox Chicken Chub Roll has a 99p most-common price. Fifty-seven percent of retailers charge above this, with £1.59 the highest price charged.
• Pedigree lines see the biggest gaps between the most-common price and highest price charged. The brand's Rodeo Beef has a £1.09 most-common price, 37% of stores charge more than that, going as high as £1.99. Similarly, the brand's Denta Stix 3s has a £1.19 most-common price, 30% of retailers charge above, up to £1.99.
• Whiskas +1 Complete Dry with Chicken has the highest most-common price at £2.55. Just 21% charge above this, with £2.99 the highest price charged. Similarly, Wagg Meaty Goodness Dinner 1kg has a £2.29 most-common price which just 11% or retailers charge above, £2.99 again the highest price charged. Seemingly the higher a line's average price the less willing retailers are to go above it in petcare.
