Comparing the prices of petcare products
Behind the numbers
Pet ownership has fallen from its pandemic highs, but more than half of UK households still own at least one pet. With shoppers keen to stick to their preferred brands, where are the opportunities for retailers?
Sheba Classics Chicken in Terrine is the main outlier: 62% of retailers are charging it above its most-common price of 75p, with some charging as much as £1.35.
It’s a similar story for Sheba Fine Flakes Salmon in Jelly. 75p is its lowest price, adhered to by 37% of retailers, while 62% are charging up to the most-common price of £1.
Elsewhere, 39% and 38% of retailers are exceeding Whiskas Chicken in Jelly and Salmon in Jelly’s shared most-common price of £1.39, respectively, charging up to £1.79 for both. For dogs, some retailers are widening margins on Bonio, where 35% are charging above its most-common price of £2.75, with some going as high as £3.49.
