Comparing the prices of low- and no-alcohol
Behind the numbers
Half of UK adults have purchased low- or no-alcohol drinks in the past year, and the new year provides an opportunity for a sales uptick thanks to new year’s resolutions and Dry January. How can retailers capitalise?
All of this week’s lines are charged above their most-common prices by a minority of retailers. In fact, just one – Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0 four-pack – has its most-common price exceeded by more than 30%: 38% are charging as much as £6, £1.50 more than its most-common price. Elsewhere, 29% are charging more than Heineken 0.0 four-pack’s most-common price of £4.50, with £5.99 its highest-recorded price. Nearly every four-pack examined this week is operating in this price range.
It’s a similar story for wine and spirits: 27% are charging up to £5.99 for McGuigan Zero Sauvignon Blanc 750ml, compared to its most-common price of £4.99, while 26% are going up to the same price with Nozeco 750ml.
