Comparing the prices of colas and carbonates
Behind the numbers
Colas and carbonates are pillars of the soft drinks category, which is the third-largest sales category in convenience. Where are the opportunities for retailers to widen their margins among top-selling plain packs?
Three lines in particular stand out, Pepsi Max 500ml: 76% of retailers are charging above its most-common price of £1.25, with £2.30 the highest price recorded.
Elsewhere, 67% are exceeding Bigga Fruit Punch 600ml’s most-common price of £1.45, with some charging as much as £1.99. Meanwhile, 61% are widening margins on Coca-Cola Original Taste 500ml, this week’s top-selling line, with some charging as much as £2.29 compared to the £1.50 set by 38%. This highest price is 30p higher than April last year, when it was last analysed.
Coca-Cola 330ml also has potential, with 43% charging above its most-common price of £1, some of whom are charging as much as £1.46.
