Comparing the prices of boxed chocolate products

This week’s data shows scope to boost profits on boxed chocolate. With Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Easter fast approaching, where can retailers afford to review prices? 

Celebrations 650g and Cadbury Heroes 600g have the same most-common price of £5, charged by a similar proportion of retailers charging above this (48% and 52%, respectively, with some pricing as high as £10.99 for both). However, when betterRetailing analysed the different prices, it was found that in both cases, most retailers were only charging £5.99. 

Interestingly, the 290g Heroes format has a higher most-common price of its 600g size, set by 95% of retailers. 

Looking at smaller boxed formats, 49% charge up to £3.49 for a Terry’s Chocolate Orange 157g, compared with the 43% selling it at its most-common price of £1.50. This could be because customers are less likely to worry about price on gifts.
